Snorkelling Trail

When you think about Scotland the usual thing that springs to mind are the hills, the nature, the whisky and stunning coastline. However, what may not spring to mind is what lays under arguable the UK’s most stunning stretch of coast line.

Though not the warmest stretch of coast line in the world the Scottish waters still holds an abundant of stunning marine life and coral reef that could compete with anywhere in the world.

West Coast Snorkel Trail

A few years ago the West Coast Snorkel Trail was established. This trail takes in the best bays to go snorkelling in on the West Coast. The beaches are stunning and there is plenty of accommodation from hotels to perfect B&B and handy campsites.

The trail starts, or ends depending on your direction, near Achmelvich. Winding its way south through Ullapool, Dundonnel and finally finishing in the Gairloch area. This close proximity to wonderful West Coast villages and easily accessible beaches makes for a rare discovery. With the right equipment, such as a wetsuit, wet socks, mask, fins and snorkel this hidden world can be explored. The ‘not so warm’ water can easily be managed by either planning your trip on warm days or simply wearing a full-length wetsuit.

Combine snorkelling with sea kayaking!

As always Liquid Footprints like to add that special twist to a day. We combine the wonder that is snorkelling with possible best way to see the Highland Coast, Sea Kayaking.

For our day we will sea kayak from one of the sheltered bays to our snorkelling venue, offering us the chance to take in the spectacular scenery. Landing at our location, wetsuits, snorkels and fins (all included in the cost of the day) will be pulled from our kayaks and the exploration of these unique Scottish environments begin.

As with all activities your safety is number one focus. During your snorkelling session we will place safety buoys around the perimeter of the snorkelling area so that no one can swim to far from the shore. Your instructor will also be on shore keeping an eye on everyone with kayak to hand if anyone needs a hand.

For the day there is also the option of a BBQ at an additional cost. This is all provided by our friends at The Storehouse who will source us with all local ingredients from the Highlands and this will then be cooked up by ourselves as you explore the marine life.

Finally at the end of our day we pop back into our kayaks and head back to our vehicle.
