The perfect trip for any major golfing fan!

When you are on this wonderful touring route, you will be sharing it with the people whose lives and livelihoods depend on the roads in and around the NC500, as well as your fellow travellers from all over the world, so make sure you know how to drive and ride responsibly, safely and respectfully, and remember to leave the countryside as you would all wish to find it – leave no trace of your visit!

Golfing - Day 1

Inverness to Dornoch (approx. 43 miles)

AM  Golf at its best!

We hope you enjoyed the trip up the A9 to Inverness. The North Highlands have a superb selection of golf courses to choose from……you will be spoilt for choice!

Start your journey by exploring the Black Isle – follow the A9 over the Kessock Bridge and take to the tee at Fortrose and Rosemarkie Golf Club. The course is situated in the best location for spotting pods of dolphin, with views over the firth from every hole.

PM Getting peckish?

Getting peckish? Stop for lunch or a coffee and cake at the picturesque Storehouse  and enjoy the views across the Cromarty Firth. Don’t forget to have a browse of their farm and gift shops.

Head up the road to start your round of the North Coast 500. Spend your afternoon exploring the quaint wee town of Dornoch, with various gift and craft shops to browse, and a tranquil golden beach to discover.

Evening Accommodation & Evening Meal

Enjoy a luxury night stay and fine dining experience at Links House Dornoch –  a vital stop for any keen golfer in East Sutherland. Links House Hotel has been beautifully restored to reflect the strength and drama of its setting, overlooking the 1st tee at Royal Dornoch Golf Club. Or be even closer to the action and stay at the Royal Golf Hotel, where the luxurious rooms have views stretching over the golf course and onto the Dornoch Firth.

Alternatively, if you wish to stick around – unwind at the lavish Glenmorangie House by Tain.  Make sure you take some time to explore the grounds of the House, and surroundings. Walk through the walled garden or take the green path leading to the beach and enjoy a stroll along white, sandy shores. The House is on the Ross-shire peninsula, not far from Glenmorangie Distillery in Tain (which is more than worth visiting!).

All our itineraries are based on suggestions alone. If you would like a more comprehensive option please head to our interactive map. Itineraries are based on main seasonality opening times from March to September – remember to pre book meals/activities/tours.

Set up base

While many NC500 travellers spend one night in a handful of different locations as they travel the route, a large proportion of visitors opt to set up base in a number of locations around the route – spending a few nights in each place and getting to know the different regions that make up the route.
