Lyth Arts Centre: Music & Arts in Caithness
Lyth Arts Centre is the UK’s most northerly mainland arts centre and is located in the heart of Caithness, outside Wick and John O’Groats. Every year from March to December, they present a programme of live performances from touring companies and visual arts – from Scotland, the UK and the world. Performances include theatre, dance, family events, jazz, folk, classical and world music, comedy, circus, and much more. Lyth Arts Centre also presents performances in around 12 village halls and community centres across Caithness and North Sutherland.
The centre is housed deep in the Caithness countryside in a charming old building set within trees and aged stone walls. The exterior of the building still retains the character of a Victorian village school but the interior of the building has been imaginatively converted to a dynamic multi-purpose arts centre, including a fully -equipped 60 seat black box studio theatre which converts into an exhibition space, back stage facilities, a public cafe/and bar (and accommodation for visiting performers).
