IAM RoadSmart have dedicated more than 60 years to making Britain’s roads safer. They do this by improving the skills of driver and rider through coaching and education, thanks to the thousands of volunteers and hundreds of local groups.
Their flagship Advanced courses give drivers and riders on-road confidence, introduces them to a thriving community of friendly, like-minded people, and helps them rediscover their love for driving and riding. The courses are open to all post-licence drivers and riders.
Advanced courses generally last around 6-12 sessions with an Observer. And once you’re ready, you’ll be put forward for your Advanced Test. Upon completion, you’ll gain ‘Advanced Driver’ and ‘IAM RoadSmart Member’ status.

If you are looking for a refresher rather than an Advanced course, then you may want to consider an on-road module. These are short, 75-minute sessions which focus on specific areas of driving, such as Parking and Manoeuvring, Motorway Driving and even Country Roads, perfect for those travelling the NC500 route.
