Located on the glorious Caithness coast, this eco-friendly, family-owned business – set up by husband-and-wife team, Claire and Martin Murray – is a craft distillery producing a range of gins, vodkas, and rum, including the multi-award-winning Rock Rose Gin reflecting the purity and beauty of the Scottish coastline. These elegant and subtle spirits celebrate the unique natural and cultural heritage of Caithness and use many locally-foraged and home-grown botanicals to create exceptional, eco-friendly spirits.
The distillery also produces the official North Coast 500 Gin and has just launched the official North Coast 500 Vodka, both reflecting the iconic route which can be purchased at the distillery, online, and shipped to North Coast 500 distillery visitors living in the UK (with free delivery over £50).
This 5-Star VisitScotland visitor attraction has recently been awarded ‘Gin Tourist Destination of the Year 2022’ and ‘Green Tourism Gold Award 2023’.
Claire, Martin, and their team invite you to join a guided tour of the distillery and discover their authentically Caithness spirits! During the tour visitors will learn more about Rock Rose Gin, Holy Grass Vodka and Mapmaker’s Rum, the botanicals used to make the spirits, and Elizabeth and Margaret – the distillery’s fabulously shiny stills!
Tour participants will enjoy a delicious Rock Rose Gin & Tonic in the Tasting Room whilst learning about the history of the distillery and the myths and folklore associated with the botanicals used to create the spirits before walking over to see the Still House where the magic happens! The tour concludes with a tutored tasting of three of the distillery’s delicious spirits and visitors receive a wee goody bag to take home and enjoy later!
Guided distillery tours run Monday – Saturday at 11am and 2pm (1st April until 30th September), reducing in number during the winter months, please see www.dunnetbaydistillers.co.uk for further details. Tours last around 1.5 hours and cost £18 per head.
