1. Guided Castle Tours
Step inside the fascinating world of Brodie Castle with an immersive tour. Led by expert guides, you’ll discover how the castle has evolved over centuries, and get a sneak peek into its magnificent collection of furniture, ceramics, and artwork, including works by 17th-century Dutch masters. The castle’s impressive library, with over 6,000 volumes, is a must-see for any history or literature enthusiast.
2. Self-Guided Saturdays
While the Castle is open all week, Saturdays offer something special! Every Saturday from 10:30am to 2pm, you can wander through the rooms at your leisure, safe in the knowledge that the wonderful guides will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. Enjoy wandering through the rooms filled with the rich history of the Brodie family.
3. The Playful Garden
The Playful Garden is packed with excitement for all ages. Inspired by the estate’s rich and eccentric past, the garden features friendly characters and imaginative sculptures. It’s perfect for a relaxed stroll, sensory play, and time outdoors. Don’t miss the famous Brodie Bunny! Scotland’s biggest bunny sculpture and a fantastic photo opportunity for families.
4. Brodie Castle Pond Walk & Photo Trail
If you’re looking for a peaceful outdoor activity, the Pond Walk is the perfect way to unwind. Take a stroll around the pond, spot some ducks, and enjoy the wildlife hides and wooden carvings along the way. There are a number of photo points along the way, part of the Brodie Castle Photo Trail. These posts have a groove cut in the top where you can rest your camera or pop your phone in to get the perfect snap. Pick up a map from the Welcome Centre or use a QR code to access it on your phone.
5. The Pictish Trail
Venture beyond the castle walls with the unique Pictish Trail, which showcases carvings inspired by Scotland’s early Pictish inhabitants. Created by the Brodie Castle Grounds Team, these artworks line the trail and guide you to the Rodney Stone, an original Pictish carved stone standing proudly on the estate. Trail maps are available from the Welcome Centre.
6. Orienteering Trails
If you’re feeling a bit more adventurous, Brodie Castle offers two free orienteering trails, developed with the Moravian Orienteering Club:
• A beginner-friendly loop around the castle suitable for all ages and abilities.
• An advanced trail exploring the wider estate and pond area, perfect for experienced adventurers.
And don’t worry — you don’t need to know how to use a compass, although you can download a free compass app for extra fun! Digital and printed maps are available from the Welcome Centre.
7. The Castle Café
Opening Hours: Daily, 10:00am – 4:00pm
After a busy day of exploring, treat yourself to a bite at the Castle Café, set in the Castle’s Victorian Kitchen. Serving up everything from
hot and cold lunches, snacks, teas, coffees, and cakes.
New this summer:
Castle Brunch Menu (available from 11:30am – 2:30pm) features:
• Smoked salmon & cream cheese toasted bagel with rocket and capers
• Grilled cheddar & Arran chutney sourdough with roasted cherry tomatoes
• Avocado, cheddar & tomato toast with chilli flakes
• A vegan & gluten-free burger with mixed salad and crisps You’ll also find pasties, soups, sandwiches, and kids’ lunch boxes available all day.
8. Adventure Playpark
Perfect for blowing off steam, the playpark is located beside the Castle Café. The Adventure Playpark is filled with exciting equipment for children to enjoy.
9. Playful Garden Café & Soft Play
Opening hours: Daily 10:00am – 4:00pm
Playful Garden Café offers specialty coffees, bubble teas, cakes, healthy snacks, light lunches, and cold drinks. The soft play is located inside Playful Café and is perfect for little ones to enjoy while you relax in the café.
10. Family-Friendly Events
Brodie Castle is also home to a range of family-friendly events throughout the year. This summer, celebrate National Playday on Wednesday, 6th August, with free crafts, games, and activities for children of all ages. And don’t miss out on the Nature Nippers session on Thursday, 14th August, where kids can learn all about nature through outdoor games and crafts.
