The Hawthorns B&B is a family run traditional bed & breakfast offering spacious, comfortable and relaxing accommodation all within the beautiful setting of the rural village of Mey, home to the Castle of Mey. Boasting open views towards Dunnet Head, the most northerly point on the UK mainland, the Hawthorns sits directly on the NC500 route, just a short 7 mile drive from John O’Groats.
Accommodation at the Hawthorns consists of 5 letting bedrooms:
- Beech – our “big” room, contains a comfortable king size bed and enjoys the full view towards Dunnet Head to the front. Beech contains a wheelchair/disabled friendly wet room style shower room.
- Willow – situated to the rear of the property and with views of our rear garden Willow also boasts a comfortable king size bed. Shower room en-suite.
- Hazel – one of our triple rooms, Hazel is located to the front of the property, so enjoys our Dunnet Head view! Hazel contains a double and single bed. Shower room en-suite.
- Holly – our second triple room, with rear garden views. Holly also contains a double and single bed. Shower room en-suite.
- Rowan – our double room with rear garden views, Rowan contains a double bed and also has a shower room en-suite.
All of our rooms have free wifi, television, tea and coffee making facilities and Dolce Gusto coffee machines.
At the Hawthorns, we want you to feel at home, so we have a guest sitting room available with DVD player and Playstation 3. Choose a DVD from our collection and watch it either in your room (where DVD player is available) or in the sitting room.
We offer delicious breakfast options at the Hawthorns, you can either “build your own” from the selection of cooked items, or treat yourself with smoked salmon and scrambled eggs before you head out for a day’s exploring in Caithness.
Dog Friendly
No holiday is complete without our furry friends, and as we at the Hawthorns have 2 dogs of our own we want you to know you are welcome to bring your furry friend to stay here with us. A small charge is made for this, which we donate to a local dog rescue charity.
Cycle friendly/motorbike friendly
As well as 4 legged companions, we also welcome the two wheeled variety here at the Hawthorns. We have a secure shed for cycle storage and offer drying facilities in our laundry room. Motorbikers are also more than welcome, as former bikers ourselves, Graeme relishes the chance for a chat with a fellow rider!
Unfortunately we do not offer evening meals at Hawthorns, however we do have several restaurants within easy driving distance of us, each to be recommended (yes – even a couple of dog-friendly ones!)
Graeme and Eilean took over the Hawthorns in 2016, just as promotion of the NC500 was starting to build up. We both came from a bottling background (sadly not whisky!) and enjoyed visits to the area many many times, on two wheels and four.
