About Us
- North Coast Explorer is a family-run tour company, specialising in the far north of Scotland and is recognised with a 5 star quality award by Visit Scotland.
- Our tours are designed to ensure you travel in comfort while giving you the opportunity to visit sites inaccessible to other tour companies in our premium 4 x 4.
- Robert, your accredited tour guide, has a passion for the North Highlands which is brought to life when he is sharing his knowledge with others and he’ll provide you with an enjoyable and informative insight into the area.
- Learn from our own interactive database which references over 1800 locations of historic interest, wildlife habitats and great viewing points.
- Experience some of the more remote locations in a truly immersive manner via the Sky Explorer, our flying camera (weather-permitting). Pop on the viewing goggles and you are flown ‘virtually’ over and around the site, giving you a unique bird’s eye view into these amazing places.
Our Tours
Please find a selection of our tours below. However, all our tours can be tailored to meet your specific requirements and the examples below should be used as a guide only.
The Grand Explorer – 7 days
This provides the opportunity not just to discover the beautiful coastline of the north Highlands, covering the whole NC500, but also taking time investigate some its wild interior too including the Flow Country, the Strathnaver Trail and the Falls of Shin.
The North Coast 500 Explorer – 6 days
This tour will show you the very best of the classic NC500 but as well as the iconic attractions, we will still spring enough surprises over the five hundred miles to make you think about the Highlands in an entirely different way.
The North Highland History Explorer – 4 days
On this tour we will accompany you on a time traveller’s journey starting around 3500BC and taking you right into the modern era. We will visit ancient burial tombs, mysterious stone circles, Viking battle sites, ruined medieval castles and abandoned WW2 sites, while learning about the Highland Clearances and the Fishing industry too.
The Heart of the North Highlands Tour – 4 days
From the east to the west coast, this tour takes you across the huge landscapes in the centre of the North Highlands whilst also touching plenty of picturesque coastline. With the opportunity to learn about Highland history, see reclusive wildlife and experience some delicious local produce, this tour will provide drama, peace and plenty of memories.
The West Highland Tour – 4 days
The vistas on the west coast are amazing and, as many can confirm, much of it can be viewed from the roadside. But if you want to lift the lid on what lays before you and really experience the region, we recommend you get off the beaten track and get out of the car! Whether you enjoy scenery, gardens, wildlife or food, the west coast has it all and we can guide through the best of it.
The Highland Loop Explorer – 1 day
Explore the borderland between Caithness and Sutherland. Learn about the wilderness of the Flow Country, home to red deer and golden eagles, find traces of ancient settlements and discover the truth about the Highland Clearances.
The Far North East Explorer – 1 day
The historic county of Caithness has so much to offer, yet if you only drive through on the main road without stopping, you are likely to miss out on the many sights and experiences which it holds. From seabirds and wildlife to history dating back over 400 years, you’ll discover our ‘hidden Caithness’.
Other Useful Information
- Unfortunately, we do not accept pets on our tours though of course we welcome Guide or Assistance dogs.
- Our standard tour prices include bottled water but do not include food, although we can provide a variety of catering options on request.
- Admission fees or guided tours by third parties are not included in the tour price unless stated.
- We are unable to arrange accommodation, dinner or other 3rd party excursions on your behalf as this would require us to conform to the EU Package Tour Operators Directive. This would be prohibitively expensive for us and you. We can however provide pre-qualified recommendations once a deposit for a tour has been paid and this has worked well with our guests to date.
