THE HOUSE

Guests at Kinloch have use of the whole house. Once the shooting lodge of the Dukes of Sutherland, Kinloch retains much of its vernacular charm, with some artistic twists to create cosy, eccentric spaces. You can gather in two living rooms for drinks, curl up in the library with a book, and catch-up in the kitchen or lounge in the conservatory overlooking the iconic Ben Hope. Kinloch is a place so remote and far from your daily life, that you only have time to enjoy nature and appreciate all the place has to offer. The lodge houses a number of shared spaces for you to find a quiet spot, or gather for parties. Overlooking Ben Loyal and the river below, the conservatory is a wonderful spot for breakfast and afternoon tea. Adjacent to the conservatory is a cosy living room with a drinks cart and comfy seats for pre-dinner gatherings. This sits opposite another, smaller sitting room – a perfect spot for boardgames and midday lazy reading. Finally, the small library is a haven for quiet times or intimate moments.

ROOMS

The rooms, which have individual names, carry the lodge’s mix of traditional Scottish interiors spiced up with a Scandinavian look for details that make all the difference. The rooms are all spacious. Five have super-king-size beds (180 cm wide) and two slightly smaller king-size beds (150 cm wide). Tuck in for a rest sheltered from the harsh natural elements. Kinloch can sleep up to twelve people, with prices for hire starting from a party of eight guests onward.

FOOD

The north of Scotland is abundant with produce that sings. To the north, in the wild ocean and lochs our suppliers catch seafood and fresh fish all year round. Deep in the hills, venison from the estate is harvested for long, cosy suppers – great to eat, and great for the planet. Foraging in the landscape will yield berries, mushrooms and all sorts of goodies. Our focus is on taking these ingredients and cooking them simply and well. Hearty fayre for sharing and enjoying – the simple pleasure of a long and jovial supper is one of life’s true treasures.

ADVENTURES

Kinloch is a place to let the day take you as it comes. You’re on Highland time now, after all. The lodge includes a multi-use annex to hangout in with with family and friends, offering comfy seating, a television, games console and a treatment room to relax and unwind in. Down by the river, you’ll find our sauna yurt for relaxing sweats and wild dips in the cool, rushing waters. Of course, the real adventures are waiting for you in the landscape beyond. Kinloch sits on Scotland’s far northern coast, in the wild land of Sutherland. Think north, then go north a bit, and then keep going. Here you’ll find pristine peatland than seems to stretch out forever, dramatic mountains like Ben Hope and Ben Loyal, and bright white beaches where the rock face crashes into azure waters. “Come and get me,” the landscape cries out. Our guests have unique access to beautiful lochs, wild rivers, ancient forests and endless expanses to explore and play. Our team will be happy to help you plan your adventures before you arrive, be it the direction of a good cycling track, or a week of fishing on the world famous Hope system. A collection of mountain bikes are free to use during your stay. Kinloch estate plays host to traditional country pursuits, for sure – but we can also arrange new ways to enjoy this ancient landscape. Nip to the riverside sauna yurt for a sweat and a cold dip, head to our hidden mountain bothy for a long lunch in the wild, or enjoy a yoga retreat where the world can’t find you.

Kinloch Lodge is available for a maximum of 12 guests on a fully-catered, exclusive use basis. Please note that the base rate for hire is based on eight guests, and increases up to twelve guests. The lodge is available for a minimum of three days, giving you lots of time to explore and unwind. The lodge is fully staffed for the duration of your stay.
