The John O’Groats Mill not-for-profit heritage visitor attraction and museum housed in one of Scotland’s last working watermills.
Open 10am-5pm, last entry 4pm, 6 days a week (closed Wednesdays).
Built in 1901, operated until 2001, and opened to the public in 2025, the John O’Groats Mill is a friendly community-operated visitor experience.
Equipped with modern museum signage, interactive displays, and children’s activities, the John O’Groats Mill is educational and fun for all ages. Learn about industrial, agricultural, and local heritage in our historical building.
Our visitor centre boasts beautiful views of the Pentland Firth and Duncansby Burn (stream). Why not take a picnic or your sketchbook and enjoy the tranquil setting from our balcony!
The John O’Groats Mill can be found 1/2 a mile west along the coast from the John O’Groats signpost. Either walk from there, following the all-abilities coastal path, or take the A836 and park in our free car park.
We fully accessible, with disabled facilities and wheelchair access to every floor of the museum. For guided tours and machinery demonstrations, see our social media. For group bookings, contact us at [email protected]
