Dunnet Bay Distillers – a must-visit distillery on the North Coast 500!
Located on the North Coast 500 route on the glorious Caithness coast, this eco-friendly, family-owned business – set up by husband-and-wife team, Claire and Martin Murray – is a craft distillery producing a range of gins, vodkas, and rum, including the multi-award-winning Rock Rose Gin reflecting the purity and beauty of the Scottish coastline. These elegant and subtle spirits celebrate the unique natural and cultural heritage of Caithness and use many locally-foraged and home-grown botanicals to create exceptional, eco-friendly spirits.
The distillery also produces the official North Coast 500 Gin and has recently launched the official North Coast 500 Vodka, both reflecting the iconic route which can be purchased at the distillery, online, and shipped to North Coast 500 distillery visitors living in the UK (with free delivery over £50).
This 5-Star VisitScotland visitor attraction has recently been awarded ‘Gin Tourist Destination of the Year 2022’ and ‘Green Tourism Gold Award 2023’. Claire, Martin, and their team invite you to join a guided tour of the distillery and discover their authentically Caithness spirits! During the tour visitors will learn more about Rock Rose Gin, Holy Grass Vodka and Mapmaker’s Rum, the botanicals used to make the spirits, and Elizabeth and Margaret – the distillery’s fabulously shiny stills!
During the peak season, our distillery tours operate Monday to Saturday from 1st April until 30th September, with reduced availability during the winter months. For North Coast 500 visitors short on time, we offer Express Tours at 10:30am or 11:30am, each lasting approximately 30 minutes and costing £15 per person. Alternatively, you can book a Premium Tour at 2pm, providing a detailed insight into the history of Dunnet Bay Distillery. Premium Tours last around 1.5 hours and cost £22 per person.
