Coul House Hotel’s proud owners, Stuart and Susannah Macpherson arrived here in 2003, with their two infant girls, Aurora and Liah. They had just purchased a country house hotel sight unseen and were ready to begin a new adventure. Delighted to return to their homeland after spending 10 years running small luxury hotels in America, they have since lovingly restored both the house and its beautiful grounds to what you see today. Improvements and refinements are ongoing and their determination and enthusiasm to make Coul House one of the Highland’s best loved country house hotels is now a reality.
Coul House was built in 1821 and is set in the hills above Contin, offering scenic views and an award-winning restaurant. Located within 5 miles of Loch Achilty and Loch Ussie, this hotel is only 20 minutes’ drive from Inverness.
The spacious twenty-one rooms are individually decorated, and many have period features and garden views. All rooms have a flat-screen TV, a private bathroom with free toiletries, tea and coffee facilities and a seating area. Free Wi-Fi is included.
Many of our repeat guests have their favourite room; whether it is for its accessibility to the outside to let the dog out or for the commanding views down the glen.
The restaurant has a unique octagonal shape and an ornate ceiling. Serving a contemporary gourmet menu using local produce, there is also a wide-ranging wine list. We are known for our versatility here at Coul House, often saying that our meal times are guidelines not deadlines. Chef Garry offers a range of dining options which includes both contemporary Scottish Cuisine and some more traditional favourites. I am sure you will agree there’s something for everyone to relish whether it’s for Lunch, Afternoon Tea, or Dinner.
With plenty of space to relax and wind down, you’ll find yourself in awe of unique architecture, ornate plasterwork, fine craftsmanship and the unusual shapes which adorn the interiors of Coul House Hotel. Magnificent fireplaces, ornate ceilings and magnificent views from all of the public areas create a unique environment with a very relaxing ambiance.
Set in eight acres of beautiful mature woodland, Coul House is opposite the biking track to Rogie Waterfalls, in Achilty Forest.
Free private parking is available and the market town of Dingwall is just 6 miles away. Beauly can be reached after a 20-minute drive.
Nearby attractions include the castles at Dunrobin and Cawdor, Glen Ord Whisky.
