Tarbat Discovery Centre

Tarbat Discovery Centre is a local heritage museum, learning and activity centre situated on the Tarbat Peninsula, and set within the attractive fishing village of Portmahomack. The site was excavated in the 90s by the University of York and is of national significance being one of the earliest Christian sites in Britain dating from the 6th century. It is the only Pictish monastic site found in Scotland to date -‘The Iona of the East’. The Centre displays many spectacular artefacts and examples of Pictish Art. Nearby are the surviving ‘cross slab’ standing stones of Hilton, Shandwick and Nigg which are among the finest achievements of 8th century European Art. Tain & District Museum

Tain & District Museum and Clan Ross Center opens the door to the history of Tain, an ancient royal burgh in the north of the Highlands of Scotland. It is set in a complex of three buildings; a medieval collegiate church, a museum, and a visitor centre in an old schoolhouse, all within an atmospheric churchyard where you can experience hundreds of years of history from the Bronze Age Ardjachie stone with its Pictish carvings to Viking burials and a medieval saint inspiring an age of Pilgrimage, Royal visitors

Nigg Old Church

Nigg Old Church is a fine example of a Scottish parish church containing a magnificient Pictish monument dating from the eighth century. This church is open daily from 10:00am to 5:00pm, 1st April to 31st October.

The Shandwick Stone

The Shandwick Stone (Clach a’Charridh) has stood majestically overlooking the Moray Firth for over 1000 years. One of three beautifully carved Pictish/early Christian cross slabs still in Easter Ross.

Alness Heritage Centre

Local Heritage , genealogy and conference centre where ever changing exhibitions are help in two exhibition rooms using items of local interest. The Heritage Shop is also a treasure trove of beautiful crafts, pictures painted by local artists, hand made knitwear from babies jackets to adult sizes, hand made cards, a selection of beautiful mounted photographs of views and wildlife of the area.

Highland Museum of Childhood

The museum is located in Strathpeffer's charming old Victorian station where trains brought visitors to the village in it's heyday as a spa. Telling the story of childhood across the Highlands of Scotland, the displays reflect the stories of children, crofters and townsfolk and explore the customs and traditions. Themes include Birth and Baptism, Health and Nutrition, Toys and Games and Education.

Invergordon Naval Museum and Heritage Centre

On display at Invergordon Museum you will find a variety of displays including the history of Invergordon and its three castles, the story of Invergordon’s Polish camp during WWII and the contribution the Polish soldiers made to the local community, and Invergordon school photographs taken over 100 years showing various class groups of Invergordon schools.
