Ben Wyvis National Nature Reserve

A constant brooding presence on the skyline, the mountain of Ben Wyvis is a local personality. Stand on the summit and you'll feel like you're on the roof of the world, with the Highlands ranged beneath your feet. The mossy cover on The Ben's summit hides many secrets, including summer nesting dotterel and the pure white of a winter-clothed ptarmigan. On the lower slopes there's a unique mix of plants adapted to the harsh conditions of this mighty mountain.

On 29th of September 1904 Mrs Carnegie of Skibo opened Bonar Bridge, Ardgay Golf Club. Set in some of the most spectacular scenery in Sutherland with Rolling Hills, Purple Heather, Scots pine and views over Loch Migdale. The course has been voted the most picturesque 9 hole course in Scotland. The club extends a warm Highland welcome to all, and only 45 minutes north of Inverness on the Struie road.

Nigg Bay

Nigg Bay is an extensive area of mudflat, saltmarsh and wet grassland on the Cromarty Firth. Visit any time between October and March and you're sure to see countless wading birds and wildfowl, such as bar-tailed godwits, knots, pink-footed geese and wigeon, feeding and roosting on the mudflats, moving with the tide in and out of the bay. The best time to visit is two hours either side of high-tide, as the birds are pushed up closer to the hide.

Tarbat Golf Club is over 100 years old and celebrated it's centenary in 2009. It sits in the beautiful little seaside resort of Pormahomack. Only 10 minutes from the main A9 near Tain in Ross-Shire it is the only nine links course in the area.

Rogie Falls

Get up close to these impressive waterfalls on a new suspension bridge across the beautiful Black Water river. It's only a short walk from the car park and during August and September there's an excellent chance of seeing wild salmon leaping upstream. Visit after heavy rain or snow, when water gushes and tumbles from the slopes of Ben Wyvis, and the Falls of Rogie are even more sensational.

This beautiful expanse of golden sand is located within the seaboard villages of Shandwick and Balintore. The extensive sandy blue flag beach has dunes behind it and rocky areas to the North and the South. There is a charming harbour in Balintore to the North. Extensive coastal paths pass by this beach. Parking spaces are abundant and there is easy access from the area to many local historical sites.

Stoneyfield Loch Trout Fishery

Set in beautiful, tranquil Highland scenery, Stoneyfield Lochs offers a relaxing days fishing in peaceful surroundings. Fyrish and Rhicullen are five acres each and Struie is three and a half acres. The three well stocked lochs provide opportunities to catch, from the bank, any of the quality blue, brown or rainbow trout which range in size from approx. Open season is from the start of March through to the end of October.

Centrepiece of Storehouse of Foulis, delightfully set on the shore of the Cromarty Firth in the heart of Munro country, is the fully restored 18th C., grade A listed, Storehouse. Housed within are a series of entertaining informative and educational history and wildlife exhibitions. Outside the storehouse you can try and spot grey seals resting on the shore along the river.

Strathpeffer Spa Golf Club

In situation and scenery Strathpeffer Spa Golf Club is unique among Scottish golf courses. Most hazards are natural with 4 ponds coming into play. Fast sloping greens mean that very few bunkers are required and the course plays much more difficult than the 5001 yards (par 67) would suggest. This course has 18 different holes throughout the club.
