Business Members Testimonials
Here are some testimonials from a few of our existing business members on how the North Coast 500 has already made a significant impact on their business:
Local hotelier: Dan Rose-Bristow from The Torridon, Torridon, Wester Ross
Local Distillery: Martin Murray, Co-Founder from Dunnet Bay Distillers, Dunnet, Caithness
"Since the inception of North Coast 500, we have positively embraced the initiative and tried to maximise and leverage the opportunity of being on the route and being associated with the brand. We have seen real interest when people have been booking accommodation and a number of bookings we have had come directly from customers hearing about NC500. They have all been completing the route, typically over 5-7 days and have been staying in a variety of establishments on their way around. We have had customers travel by classic car, motorbike and bicycle so far and they have all been amazed by the scenery and stunning driving available and very complimentary about the hospitality they have received in the Highlands. We have already started taking bookings for next year and the North Coast 500 is becoming a well-publicised and inspiring destination for visitors."
Local B&B: Dave McBain from Davar B&B, Lochinver, Sutherland
"Since the route began:
’We've been trading for 2 years and therefore we have had 1 year with NC500 and 1 year without. As a direct comparison our numbers have increased from about 20 visitors a week to just under 100. Our sales are at 10 times our original business plan, and this has given us the confidence to build a dedicated retail outlet. The planning application for this has been made. In addition I would say that this has had a big impact on our brand awareness in the UK and abroad.’’
We also keep a list of bookings by month at Davar, and our current numbers are about 2 months ahead of last year (ie rooms booked for the year, year to date are about where we were in July last year).
- Year on year number of bookings up around 15%.
- Winter bookings up 240%.
The big number for us though is the off-season bookings - it's not huge, but from next to nothing it shows a clear growth.
Another interesting one, which we are picking up on anecdotally, but haven't been measuring is how many people raced around the NC500 last year (ie doing it in 1-4 days) and are returning this year to do it at a more leisurely pace - and therefore staying for a few nights rather than just the one. From a B&B perspective, those are the bookings we really like".
